Tasting Note
The Sylvaner grape, originally from Austria or Transylvania, was introduced to Switzerland’s Valais region in the mid-19th century. Only in Valais can wines made from Sylvaner bear the name Johannisberg. Here, the high altitude, dramatic diurnal shifts, and local soils—along with traditional sur lie aging—give Johannisberg its unique structure and character. Expect a silky palate with aromas of toasted almond, hazelnut, and chamomile, while the lingering finish hints at nut skins and mineral notes. Its elegant, gentle bitterness brings harmony when paired with asparagus, shellfish, or mildly salty cheeses, and also highlights the natural flavors of Asian cuisine. With such complexity and finesse, Johannisberg is one of the most rewarding Swiss Valais white wines to savor.
